Create a strong branding aesthetic for “The New Mlnm”, my passion project turned into final senior design project.
This was a passion project turned into a final project of my undergraduate year at Johnson & Wales University. I was the sole designer of this project, but was able to make this project come true with some help from the Brown University Design Lab.
I was responsible for the following:
Branding was developed first by creating the name. Once the name was created, I was able to articulate the logo. The robin was selected to represent the logo because it represents renewal and thus the emergence of a new millennium.
The sneaker design is an imagined collaboration between The New MLNM and the Jordan brand. I selected Jordan XI because of its iconic silhouette. For the design, I applied a snakeskin pattern masked onto the patten leather with a greenish tint with The New MLNM branding on the back heel.
The sneaker box is a drop lid sneaker container. I removed the top of the box and replaced it with an acrylic piece with a laser etched design. In addition, I also created an acrylic based sizing tag.
For my senior board, I was given very limited space to display my work. Despite having a small space to work with, my goal was still to create a shop-like experience for the viewer. I always wanted to work in the streetwear / sneaker industry so I used that as my inspiration for my pop-up shop. For the day of my presentation, I also designed and displayed t-shirts for sale. Not only did I want to demonstrate my hard-work, but also show that I could make something of it. Through my presentation, social media, and marketing, I was able to sell 100 t-shirts within 2 months time.
